This week the team began the IB Self Study. What does this mean?
Beginning the IB Self-Study means that we have started a comprehensive review and reflection process to evaluate how well our school aligns with the International Baccalaureate (IB) standards and practices. This is an essential part of the IB program’s ongoing cycle of improvement and accountability, typically conducted as part of the schoolโs evaluation or reauthorization process. As part of this process we do require parental participation so if you are interested please email me michelle.simpson@ellesmeremuscat.com and let me know your child’s name and grade level.
Key Components of the IB Self-Study:
- Assessment of Standards and Practices:
The school reviews the IB requirements in areas like teaching and learning, curriculum, student support, leadership, and resource allocation. - Evidence Collection:
The team gathers evidence to demonstrate how the school meets these standards, such as lesson plans, teacher feedback, student work, policies, and professional development records. - Reflection and Analysis:
The team reflects on the schoolโs strengths, areas for improvement, and how the program aligns with the IB philosophy and mission. - Community Involvement:
Input is often gathered from teachers, students, parents, and other stakeholders to provide a well-rounded view. - Action Plan Development:
Based on the findings, the team creates strategies to address gaps and further enhance the program. - Submission to IB:
The completed self-study is submitted to the IB organization for review, typically followed by a visit from IB evaluators. Why does this matter? The self-study is an opportunity for growth, ensuring that your school continues to deliver a high-quality IB education while fostering a culture of reflection and improvement. Itโs a collaborative process that strengthens the program and its impact on students.
Staff were introduced to Toddle which will be our new learning, attendance, and communication platform. Watch this space for more information to follow next week.
What else has been happening this week:
Today we had Ms Simone’s grade 4 Assembly where the focus was on their unit of inquiry about Migration. The students shared different types of migration and some students shared their own personal stories about when they migrated whether it was from another country or within Oman. It was a pleasure to see so many parents attend our assembly today and we ask you to keep an eye out for when your child’s assembly is.
Teachers and students have been making the most of the different learning spaces that we have around the school. MYP Maths with Ms. Miche took advantage of the workshop space to engage in different stations related to their maths unit on Fractions/Percentages and Decimals.
Our Kindergarten students enjoyed using the outside space as a place for learning Arabic.
Grade 4 Ms. Nikki’s class took place in a pre-assessment Mess About for their upcoming unit in Statistics & Probability. The Mess About is part of pre-assessment in that it requires students to engage in activities that allow teachers a deeper insight into what a student might understand about upcoming conceptual understandings.
