Dear Parents,

With exams nearly behind us and results expected soon, I would like to take a moment to share an important reminder. This is not my letter but a letter that has been written by another school principal.

These exams are a part of our students’ learning journey — a way to understand what they know and what they might need more time to grasp. But they are not, and should never be, the only measure of a child’s worth or potential.

Each child is wonderfully unique. Amongst the students sitting exams there is an artist who doesn’t need to understand Maths… there is an entrepreneur who doesn’t care about English or History… there is a musician whose Chemistry marks won’t matter… there is an athlete whose physical fitness matters more than Physics. Students may excel in languages, others in science, sports, or the arts. Some may be natural problem-solvers, others gifted in empathy or leadership. An exam cannot capture all of this.

If your child does get top marks, that’s great! But if he or she doesn’t please don’t take their confidence and dignity from them. Tell them it’s ok, it’s just an exam. They are cut out for much bigger things in life. Tell them no matter what they score, you love them and will not judge.

Please continue to support your child with encouragement, care, and perspective. Their self-confidence and well-being matter most. Let’s help them grow into resolute, kind, and capable individuals — not just good test-takers.
