Sports Teacher Role Description (Male)

Ellesmere Muscat, a premier International Baccalaureate (IB) World School located in the vibrant heart of Oman, is on the lookout for a highly enthusiastic and dedicated Male Sports Teacher to join our secondary school faculty. This role is critical in promoting physical education and sports, aligning with the IB’s pedagogical approaches and contributing significantly to the development of After-School Activities (ASA) programmes and Sports Academies. The ideal candidate will inspire students to achieve excellence in physical education, foster teamwork and discipline, and promote a lifelong commitment to health and fitness.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Dynamic Curriculum Implementation: Design and deliver a dynamic, engaging physical education curriculum that aligns with the IB framework, emphasizing the development of physical, cognitive, emotional, and social skills.

  • After-School Activities and Sports Academies Development: Play a pivotal role in developing and enhancing our ASA programmes and Sports Academies, identifying talent, and nurturing students’ athletic abilities. Organize and coordinate sports events, matches, and competitions that align with the school’s ethos and promote sportsmanship and team spirit.

  • Enthusiastic Participation: Foster a positive, energetic environment that motivates students to participate enthusiastically in physical activities. Lead by example, demonstrating passion and dedication to sports and physical fitness.

  • Holistic Student Development: Assess and monitor students’ progress in physical education, providing constructive feedback and encouragement. Encourage students to set and achieve personal fitness goals, emphasizing the importance of a balanced lifestyle that includes physical activity.

  • Collaborative Efforts: Work collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines to integrate physical education into the broader curriculum, supporting the IB’s aim of developing well-rounded individuals. Engage with the wider school community to promote the benefits of physical activity and healthy living.

  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with the latest trends and best practices in physical education and sports training. Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in our sports programmes.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field. Additional certifications in coaching or specific sports are highly desirable.
  • Qualified teacher status, with specific experience in teaching secondary-level students.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in teaching physical education, preferably within an IB framework or a similar international curriculum.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, and implement ASA programmes and contribute to the development of Sports Academies.
  • Exceptional motivational skills, with a passion for sports and physical education.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with students, colleagues, and the wider school community.
  • Commitment to the holistic development of students, including their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
