Secondary School Islamic Studies Teacher Role Description (Male)

Ellesmere Muscat, an esteemed International Baccalaureate (IB) World School situated in the culturally rich and historically profound nation of Oman, is currently seeking a dedicated Male Islamic Studies Teacher for our secondary school division. This role is instrumental in imparting knowledge on Islamic studies, harmonizing the guidelines set by the Omani Ministry of Education with the IB’s pedagogical frameworks. The ideal candidate will inspire our students to deepen their understanding of Islamic principles, ethics, and history, while fostering an environment of respect, inquiry, and intercultural understanding.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development and Delivery: Develop and deliver a comprehensive Islamic Studies curriculum that aligns with the Omani Ministry of Education’s standards and the inquiry-based learning approach of the IB. Craft lessons that encourage students to explore Islamic history, culture, and values, fostering both academic and spiritual growth.

  • Engagement and Inquiry: Promote an environment of inquiry and open discussion, encouraging students to explore and question, thus deepening their understanding and application of Islamic teachings in the contemporary world.

  • Integration of Values: Seamlessly integrate Islamic values with the IB learner profile attributes, preparing students to become compassionate, ethical, and knowledgeable global citizens.

  • Assessment and Feedback: Utilize diverse assessment strategies to evaluate student understanding and provide constructive feedback, supporting continuous improvement and engagement with the subject matter.

  • Professional Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to create interdisciplinary units that reflect both Islamic principles and the global-mindedness of the IB, enhancing the relevance and depth of students’ learning experiences.

  • Community Engagement: Actively engage with the school community, including parents and guardians, to foster a holistic understanding of Islamic studies’ role in personal development and community wellbeing.

  • Continual Professional Growth: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay abreast of the latest educational strategies in Islamic Studies and the IB, ensuring the highest standards of teaching and learning are achieved.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Islamic Studies, Theology, or a related field.
  • Certified teaching qualification, with specific credentials for secondary education in Islamic Studies.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience, ideally within an IB framework or in alignment with the Omani Ministry of Education’s curriculum.
  • Profound knowledge of Islamic teachings, history, and culture, with the ability to relate these to modern-day contexts.
  • Strong commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful classroom environment that encourages dialogue and understanding.
  • Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in both Arabic and English preferred, to effectively engage with a diverse student body and school community.
