Secondary School Arabic Teacher Role Description

Ellesmere Muscat, a leading International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in Oman, invites applications for the position of a Secondary School Arabic Teacher. This role is critical in delivering high-quality Arabic language education, harmonizing the requirements of the Omani Ministry of Education with the innovative pedagogical approaches of the IB. As a key member of our language teaching team, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a deep appreciation and understanding of the Arabic language and its rich literary heritage, whilst promoting intercultural understanding and respect.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Integration: Skillfully integrate the Omani Ministry of Education’s Arabic curriculum requirements with the IB’s inquiry-based, concept-driven approach. Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that encourage linguistic proficiency and cultural appreciation.

  • Language Proficiency: Focus on developing students’ abilities in all areas of language learning: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Employ diverse teaching methodologies to cater to different learning styles and proficiency levels.

  • Cultural Ambassador: Act as a cultural ambassador, embedding the rich tapestry of Arab culture, history, and values into lessons, thereby enriching students’ understanding and appreciation of the Arabic-speaking world.

  • Assessment and Feedback: Utilize a variety of assessment tools to monitor student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to support continuous language development and mastery.

  • Professional Collaboration: Collaborate with fellow teachers and department heads to create interdisciplinary units that align with both the Ministry of Education’s standards and the IB framework, enhancing the overall educational experience.

  • Engagement and Communication: Engage with the school community, including parents and guardians, to promote involvement in the learning process and to support the broader educational objectives of language fluency and cultural understanding.

  • Pedagogical Development: Remain abreast of current pedagogical methods and research in language teaching, participating in professional development opportunities to continually enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Arabic Language and Literature, or a related field.
  • Certified teaching qualification relevant to secondary education.
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience, with a strong preference for candidates familiar with the IB and Omani Ministry of Education curriculums.
  • Excellent command of both classical and modern Arabic.
  • Fluency in English to facilitate communication within a diverse educational setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and challenge students in a student-centered learning environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building rapport with a diverse community of students, parents, and colleagues.
