Lower Primary PYP Classroom Teacher Role Description

Ellesmere Muscat, an esteemed International Baccalaureate (IB) World School located in the heart of Oman, is seeking a passionate and innovative Lower Primary PYP Classroom Teacher to join our vibrant learning community. This role is pivotal in shaping the educational journey of our youngest learners, guiding them through the foundational years of their education with a blend of traditional Omani values and the progressive principles of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Delivery: Implement the IB PYP framework to deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons that stimulate curiosity and foster a love for learning. Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs and interests of students.

  • Student Development: Monitor and support the holistic development of students, encompassing academic, social, emotional, and physical growth. Use a variety of assessment tools and strategies to evaluate student progress and provide feedback that promotes self-improvement.

  • Classroom Environment: Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages risk-taking, critical thinking, and collaborative learning. Utilize classroom management strategies that are consistent with the school’s ethos and the IB Learner Profile.

  • Professional Collaboration: Work closely with fellow teachers, specialists, and the PYP Coordinator to plan and coordinate cross-curricular activities that enrich the learning experience. Participate in regular staff meetings, professional development workshops, and school events.

  • Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents and guardians, informing them of their child’s progress, upcoming school activities, and ways they can support learning at home.

  • Cultural Sensitivity: Embrace and promote Oman’s rich cultural heritage within the classroom, integrating local context into the curriculum where appropriate and fostering a deep respect for diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant field; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Certified teaching qualification for lower primary education.
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience, preferably within the IB PYP framework.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and engage young learners.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and a reflective teaching practice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multicultural team environment.
