Ellesmere Muscat, an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in Oman, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Individuals and Societies Teacher for our Middle Years Programme (MYP), with the capability to also teach Social Studies. This position is ideal for a dedicated educator who is passionate about fostering an understanding of cultural, historical, and societal issues among young learners, while aligning with the values and educational ethos of the IB framework.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering the Individuals and Societies curriculum within the MYP, alongside teaching Social Studies. This dual responsibility requires a deep understanding of global and regional histories, cultures, and contemporary societal issues, aiming to develop internationally minded students equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate and contribute positively to the world.
Key Responsibilities
– IB MYP Individuals and Societies Teaching: Implement and deliver an engaging and challenging curriculum for the MYP Individuals and Societies subject group, encouraging students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.
– Social Studies Teaching: Teach Social Studies to a diverse student body, focusing on the development of critical thinking and analytical skills through the exploration of historical events, cultural dynamics, and societal structures.
– Curriculum Planning and Development: Collaborate with the Individuals and Societies department to plan, develop, and assess curriculum materials and instructional strategies that meet the objectives of the IB MYP and complement the broader goals of the school’s academic programs.
– Assessment and Evaluation: Design and implement effective assessment strategies to monitor student progress, provide feedback, and support students in achieving their highest potential.
– Professional Growth and Collaboration: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practice, stay abreast of current pedagogical research, and contribute to a collaborative and supportive teaching environment.
Qualifications and Experience
– A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in History, Geography, Social Sciences, or a related field, with a teaching qualification.
– Proven experience teaching Individuals and Societies within the IB MYP framework, as well as experience teaching Social Studies in a diverse educational setting.
– Strong understanding of the IB philosophy and commitment to the IB learner profile attributes.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
– Ability to integrate technology effectively in teaching and learning processes.
