At Ellesmere Muscat, we take great pride in celebrating National Day, honouring the vibrant heritage and traditions of Oman. This year’s event was a remarkable showcase of culture, creativity, and community, with activities that delighted students, parents, and staff alike.
A Celebration Rooted in Tradition
The day began with an awe-inspiring performance by traditional Omani dancers, who brought the school to life with the sounds of drums, conch shells, and even bagpipes. Dressed in vibrant attire, their rhythmic movements and melodies captured the spirit of Oman, creating a moment of pride and inspiration for everyone present. The students were mesmerised by the energy and artistry of this performance, a true highlight of the day.
Horse Riding and Student Leadership
One of the most exciting activities was horse riding, a hands-on experience that brought smiles to students of all ages. What made this activity even more special was that it was organised by one of our very own students, showcasing leadership and a deep connection to Omani traditions. Under their guidance, students took turns riding and learning about the cultural significance of horses in Oman.
Exploring Creativity and Culture
Students also had the chance to dive into traditional crafts, including henna painting and pottery-making. These activities allowed them to explore their artistic side while connecting with the rich history of these practices. The joy of creating their own designs and learning age-old techniques made these workshops a firm favourite among the students.
Flavours of Oman
Food played a central role in the celebrations, with a thrilling food competition that showcased the culinary talents of our students. The crowd favourite, however, was the halva-making activity. Students were guided through the steps of preparing this beloved Omani treat, filling the air with the enticing aromas of saffron, rose water, and cardamom.
Music, Fun, and Togetherness
Throughout the day, the school buzzed with excitement as students and families enjoyed traditional music, dancing, and games. The celebration embodied the spirit of community, with everyone coming together to honour the rich culture and heritage of Oman.
A Message of Thanks and a Reminder
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the parents, staff, and especially our students, whose enthusiasm and respect for Omani traditions made this day truly special. The traditional dancers, the engaging activities, and the culinary delights combined to create a memorable event that will be cherished by all.
As we wrap up this week of celebrations, we remind all families that school will resume bright and early on Sunday morning. We look forward to welcoming our students back, ready to embrace the learning opportunities ahead with energy and determination.
From all of us at Ellesmere Muscat, we wish you a restful and enjoyable weekend.
